Meeting at the Library: “1835: Darwin, the Beagle, the Galapagos, and Evolution”

Ten biology students recently made a journey to Quito, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands accompanied by NMC instructor Greg LaCross. Greg will describe the trip and relate the group’s experiences to the natural history and beauty of the islands, Darwin’s visit in 1835 and how the islands have changed since, Darwin’s evolutionary theory, and the islands’ current conservation and restoration.

Greg LaCross is currently the Chairperson of the Biology Department at Northwestern Michigan College where he teaches a variety of subjects including: ecology, the major’s biology series, genetics and biochemistry. He is also a group leader for the International Services and Service Learning Department having led trips to South Africa and Ecuador. Greg is also on the board of The Leelanau Conservancy and conducts habitat assessments and natural features inventories.
