G.T. Humanists Meeting Oct 14: Why Emotions Matter
October 14 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Join the Grand Traverse Humanists at 6 p.m. at Traverse Area District Library as they welcome Anya Nyson with a talk called “Why Emotions Matter: Elevating our Humanity Through Neuroscience and Personal Practice.”
Advancements in neuroscience and psychology have provided remarkable insights into the intricate role emotions play in shaping cognition, behavior, and overall well-being. Despite these leaps forward, many societal and institutional frameworks remain rooted in outdated views that prioritize logic over emotion. This talk explores how a deeper understanding of emotions can foster personal growth, enrich our relationships, and improve decision-making. We will discuss how integrating emotional intelligence into everyday life can bridge the gap between what we know and how we live, offering transformative potential in both individual and collective experiences.
Anya Nyson has been a psychotherapist in private practice since 2011, specializing in treating adults with anxiety, depression, and attachment trauma. Anya previously worked in community mental health and holds psychology and social work degrees. Alongside her practice, Anya is currently developing Mentally Healthy Menopause, a comprehensive curriculum and online support program with the ambition to create global change in how 40% of a female’s lifespan impacts how aging women are viewed and valued in the world.
