Join the Grand Traverse Humanists as they welcome TJ Andrews, Grand Traverse County Commissioner and local environmental attorney, for a talk on “making local government work.” From her background as an advocate, organizer, and commissioner, TJ will provide some context about the function and organization of local governments in Michigan, then address some of the challenges facing effective governance at the local level and opportunities for improvements.
TJ Andrews represents non-profit groups in state and federal courts and at the Public Service Commission. TJ brings perspective to this topic as an advocate who has represented local groups before township and county boards, a litigator who sues and defends government entities, a volunteer who has sat on several local committees, a grassroots political organizer who has co-led several campaigns, and now as a county commissioner.
