SUMMARY:G.T. Humanists Bike Ride: Leelanau Trail
DESCRIPTION:Our next Humanists Bike Ride event will be on Sunday\, July 7\, leaving from Darrow Park at 11:00 AM. We will ride to Hop Lot in Suttons Bay for lunch\, and then return. And as a bonus\, some with electric bikes have been extending the ride and going on longer scenic excursions apart from the planned route.\n\nPlease RSVP to Ed at Ecs11213@gmail.com if you are planning to join. If you will be joining somewhere other than Darrow Park\, please let us know\, so we know to look for you elsewhere.

SUMMARY:G.T. Humanists Meeting: Separation of Church and State
DESCRIPTION:Join the Grand Traverse Humanists for a presentation by attorney Eleanor Lynn on the separation of church and state. Is Separation of Church and State in the United States dead on arrival? Should we give the Establishment Clause a decent Christian burial? \nEleanor Lynn will give an expert legal analysis of Supreme Court decisions issued over the past forty years dealing with “freedom of religion.“ These decisions have significantly eroded the U.S. Constitution’s first amendment provisions that prohibit any law that would interfere with the free exercise of any religion or would provide for a State-supported religion.\n\nEleanor Lynn is a well-recognized attorney with extensive legal experience in diverse areas of the law. She was in private practice for over twenty years and an adjunct professor of law at Cooley Law School\, as well as an assistant Attorney General for the State of Iowa. Also\, she was a legal researcher for the University of Iowa where she concentrated on Constitutional law and Native American law. Currently\, she is very active in leadership positions in Traverse City and teaches classes on the First Amendment and the Supreme Court\, at Northwestern Michigan College.

SUMMARY:G.T. Humanist Paddle Trip: Manistee River
DESCRIPTION:Join the Grand Traverse Humanists for a paddle trip down the mighty Manistee River! Experienced river guide Linnaea will lead you down this section of river that is appropriate for beginners. This is a beautiful section of river\, with majestic scenery on both sides. We will pass below the North Country National Scenic Trail. There is little development along the banks and the views of the hills surrounding the river should be truly spectacular.\nWe’ll meet at the Manistee River Roadside Park off of US 131 (GPS coordinates 44.489006\, -85.404125) at 11 AM\, set up our shuttle\, and paddle down to Baxter Bridge (29 1/2 Rd.\, GPS coordinates 44.4929338\, -85.528095).\nPlease bring your boat\, paddle\, sunscreen\, snacks and water\, and sturdy river shoes\, as well as a change of clothes to leave in your car.\nIf we feel like it\, we might get dinner afterwards\, perhaps at Kingsley Local Brewing/A. Papano’s Pizza.\nImportant!: RSVP to Linnaea at lmelcarek@gmail.com to attend. Rain date will be the following Saturday\, July 27.
