SUMMARY:G.T. Humanists Book Club: "I Cheerfully Refuse" by Leif Enger
DESCRIPTION:We’ve selected our next read… it’s going to be I Cheerfully Refuse\, by Leif Enger. Here’s a blurb about it\, from member Lin Foa:\n\n\nThis book\, a Washington Post Notable Book of the Year\, has been described as “part sea adventure (Lake Superior)\, and part thriller\, with a little magic along the way.” It’s set in the near-future\, and in the midst of climate change and societal collapse\, it manages to be hopeful\, harrowing\, and a love letter to books\, reading\, and sailboats.  I found it beautifully written and thought provoking. It was an NWS presentation a few months ago\, and is quite memorable. \n\n\nHere’s a link to a recording of the National Writers Series event from April 2025 featuring Doug Stanton interviewing Leif Enger: https://www.interlochenpublicradio.org/show/national-writers-series/2025-06-16/national-writers-series-leif-enger\n\n\nWe’ll be meeting at 4 p.m. on Sunday\, September 14\, at the home of Ben Shaw and Celia Villac\, 15554 Center Road\, Traverse City. RSVP to Ben and Celia at 231-463-5581.\n\nHappy reading\, everyone!
